Children Welfare Programme In India

India is a country where one billion live and where half of its population is poverty stricken. People are not able to have basic amenities they require to live. In this sector of the society people are left aside deprived of proper education, nutrition and the basic rights. In these situations the ones who are most affected are the small children suffering and leading a vulnerable life. The condition of this section of society is not at all satisfactory due to which children are engaged in economic activities too leaving their education aside. There are so many issues related to children due which they are deprived of their childhood, their potential and their mental and physical development.

In order to overcome this problem and help the children to fulfill their dreams and have a life of higher quality many efforts have been by the government by implementing child welfare programmes in India. Many people have come forward to help these children. Similarly many non-governmental organizations are also working with their own children welfare programmes in India since past few years to work this cause pulling out children from these extreme conditions and help them live their childhood. When we talk about child welfare, we see a developing environment where children can grow with support and care. If we want to clearly understand this, it can be seen by the work done by an NGO “Lakshyam” which is working since 2004 for this cause. Lakshyam works with its two children welfare programmes across the country that are:

Under “Butterfly” the main motive is to provide education to the underprivileged children. With the symbol of butterfly wings they aim at the freedom of the children to move to a better world. A well-planned teaching strategy is prepared and then education is provided to the students filing in the gaps between the formal education at the schools. Apart from the formal education children are also taught about basic sanitation and health and hygiene. Workshops are also held for the parents to make them aware about the necessity to get their children educated for a better future.

The other programme ‘Lakshyam Toy Library’ is the first programme started by Lakshyam to spread smile on the faces of innumerable children by collecting toys from the schools in Delhi and providing it to the ones who don’t have any. With this effort they not only collected toys but story books too and kept them at the library where children can have access to them whenever they want to. Lakshyam is not only working for a great cause through its welfare programmes but also teaching the other children the importance of sharing. It is giving a wonderful message which can be beautifully described through a quote-

If you see someone with no smile, give them one of yours.”
